Test

This instruction is tested valid for Debian 9.

Sign in as root mode.

Modify the sysctl.conf to enable IPV6 network.

nano /etc/sysctl.conf

Add the content as follows:

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 0
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 0
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 0

Save and exit.

Make the new settings be valid:

sysctl -p

Modify the networking interfaces:

nano /etc/network/interfaces

Note: Please check whether your network interface’s name is eth0, or change the name according to your vps.

For only one IPV6 address:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet6 static
address <IPv6 address>
netmask <prefix>
gateway <IPv6 gateway>

For more IPV6 addresses:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet6 static
address <IPv6 address1>
netmask <prefix>
gateway <IPv6 gateway>
auto eth0:0
iface eth0:0 inet6 static
address <IPv6 address2>
netmask <prefix>
gateway <IPv6 gateway>
auto eth0:1
iface eth0:1 inet6 static
address <IPv6 address3>
netmask <prefix>
gateway <IPv6 gateway>

save and exit.

Restart your network:

systemctl restart networking.service

Check the IPV6 settings:

ping6 google.com

After you set up the IPV6 successfully, the IPV6 gateway will prevail.
You could change the /etc/gai.conf to make the IPV4 gateway still be the default route.

nano /etc/gai.conf

Delete the # for this line:

precedence ::ffff:0:0/96  100

Save and exit.
